“I always stand tall with Patriotism, Honour and Integrity.” – Capt. A K Banerji (Indian Navy)
Today, it has been 70 years since India got her independence. Independence from the British Raj who ruled us for almost 90 years. We were known as the “sone ki chidiya”, the Golden Bird. We had riches, treasures, culture, power, and everything that a country needs. But, after the British invasion in 1858, a lot was to change for this sone ki chidiya. Our wealth was gone, and we in fact were left to deal with all kinds of other challenges. The challenges that came with the partition, the challenge of bringing the Maharajas and Nawabs of various princely states to join as one, and many other difficulties faced in our re-development.
Nevertheless, we had come out victorious and united on 15th August, 1947 in our struggle for freedom from the British rule. This could not have happened but for certain leaders who graced us by being born on our Motherland. Bhagat Singh for being the brave young man that he was, for fighting for our freedom, and ultimately sacrificing himself at the young age of 23. Chandra Shekhar Azad for being a creative man to organize the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) to always fight the Britishers, and then for laying down his life still fighting. Ram Prasad Bismil for executing the Kakori Conspiracy to hit the British invasion real hard. Shivaram Rajguru, Sukhdev Thapar, Ashfaqulla Khan, Subhas Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, and many others. The list of these great personalities who were martyred to free our country does not end here.
As on 15th August, 2016, we the people of India breathe our freedom because of these honorable leaders. Even though they are not present amongst us in body and soul, their legacy continues in the form our country’s Armed Forces – The Indian Army, The Indian Navy and The Indian Air force. We are still a developing nation. We still lack in a lot of aspects. We still face the challenges of over population and poverty. Corruption is probably at its peak. Crime is rampant.
However, I am certain on one thing. We cannot be tamed or bullied by anyone! Never again! We are a strong Nation! I might not give a lot of credit for this to our current leaders and their political parties. But, I believe in my country’s Defence. I believe that the air of freedom we still breathe is because we have our brave men constantly defending our Nation. We sleep so peacefully because we feel safeguarded in our homes. With them around, we will never fall prey of any invasion.
So, here on our 70th anniversary of Independence, besides wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day..I would like to take this opportunity to show my sincere appreciation and gratitude to each and every Defence personnel. These extra-ordinary people also include my Father and my Friends.
Thank you for your service Ladies and Gentlemen! Jai Hind!
